On the 9th of July 2023, 14 students from Ng Wah Catholic Secondary School were selected to take part on a study tour to singapore. The aim of the trips was to enhance their opportunities to experience different cultures, improve their English and impart the experiences they had with their peers at school.
The students were encouraged to take part in a number of fascinating activities that were a vertical slice of what Singapore has to offer. These activities included historical tours along the famous Singapore river with photo opportunities with famous landmarks such as the ‘Merlion’ and various colonial structures. Students were also given the opportunity to visit the various cultural areas within Singapore. These included Chinatown, Malaysian heritage sites and the Indian quarter. Students were also treated to a trip to the famous ‘Gardens by the bay’ in which they were able to see plant life from around the world in a well curated greenhouse structure.
Students were also encouraged to learn about the great lengths that Singapore has gone to to improve the water quality and maintain the safety of its citizens though tours of the marina barrage, a large technologically advanced fresh water reservoir, as well as the Newater plant in which water is made safe to drink to keep up with singapore's water demands. This along with the Singapore mangrove forest and the famous Changi Jewel, a famous water attraction situated within the airport, showed the students just how important closeness to water is to the people of Singapore.
The students had an informative and interesting trip filled with culture, history and activities that have created memories they will never forget.
